What we collect, and what we don't.
Love Coast is an events guide for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There is no advertising tracker on this site. Exactly one outside script loads — Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies or fingerprinting — and nothing about you is sold or shared. The count a sponsor sees is aggregate, and no reader in it is identifiable.

The short version
- No cookies are set for advertising, and no advertising script loads.
- Visits are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics — aggregate totals, no cookies, no fingerprinting, no profile.
- If you join the newsletter, your email address goes to Beehiiv so the email can be sent. Nothing else about you goes with it.
- No cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting, no third-party ad technology.
- Your IP address is never stored — not by us, in any table.
- Sponsored placements are counted as totals per placement per day, and nothing else.
- Nothing about you is sold, rented or handed to anyone.
Sponsored placements, in full
Some blocks on the site are paid placements. They always carry a Sponsored label, and they are the only part of the site that involves counting. Here is exactly how that count works, because a number an advertiser is shown should be a number a reader can audit.
An impression
A sponsored block is counted once when it actually scrolls into view — not when the page loads. The request that records it carries which placement it was and nothing else: no cookie, no identifier, no page URL, no click path.
To avoid counting the same reader ten times a day, we compute a one-way hash from your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and a random salt that is minted fresh each day and deleted when the day rotates. Two consequences worth stating plainly: your IP is an input to that hash and is never written down; and because the salt is discarded rather than derived, yesterday's hashes cannot be recomputed by us or by anyone else. Reading today and reading tomorrow can't be linked to the same person.
A click
A sponsored link points at our own domain first (/go/<slug>) and redirects to the advertiser's page. The click is counted on that request — by us, on our own server — before the redirect happens. The destination sees an ordinary visit and nothing more, and the referring page is withheld from it.
If you ask not to be tracked
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, you are still counted in the total — silently dropping you would understate an advertiser's placement — but no identifier of any kind is created for you. There is no pseudonym, no hash, nothing to keep.
The honest caveat
A click is a request we served, so it is exact. An impression is a browser agreeing to tell us about itself, so it is very slightly low: a reader with JavaScript off, or a mail client that prefetches a link, does not report one. We would rather say that than inflate the number.
What the counts are never joined to
Counts are totals for one placement on one day. They are never joined to a person, an account, a saved event or a browsing session, and we do not build a profile of anyone.
Visits, and the newsletter
Counting visits
We count how many people read each page with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your browser, and does not follow you between sites; what we see is totals — pages read, roughly where readers are, what device class they used — never a person. It is the one outside script the site loads.
The newsletter
If you join the list, the signup form sends your email address through our own proxy to Beehiiv, the service that sends the newsletter, and Beehiiv stores the address so the email can reach you. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops it. The list is never sold, rented or shared.
What the rest of the site keeps
Saved events
When you save an event, the list is held for you under a random identifier in a cookie your browser does not expose to scripts, with a copy on our own server so it survives clearing your browser and can be handed to a calendar app. It holds the events you saved and nothing about who you are. Clear your cookies and it is gone from your device; ask us and we will delete the stored copy.
Events you send us
If you send us an event — through the site, by email, or by dropping it in our intake channel — we keep what you sent in order to check and publish it. That is correspondence, not tracking, and it is not used for advertising.
Accounts
Staff and approved venue owners can sign in. An account stores an email address and a password (stored hashed, never in readable form) in our own database. Accounts are created deliberately by us; there is no public sign-up on the live site.
Where anything leaves the site
Apart from the one Web Analytics script named above, this site loads no external scripts, no tracking pixels and no third-party fonts — every other asset comes from our own domain. Three services process data on our behalf and nothing else does: Cloudflare, which serves the site, counts visits and stores what is described above, Beehiiv, which holds the newsletter list and sends the email, and Coda, which holds the events database the guide is built from.
Nothing else receives anything. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and an advertiser is never given anything that could identify a reader.
Your choices
- Send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control and no identifier is created for you.
- Clear your browser cookies to drop your saved list and any saved session.
- Write to us to ask what is held about you and to have it deleted.
